You may think that being a BAPTIST is not anything significant. However, being a Baptist is something extremely noteworthy. Baptists are literally named after the event which makes them unique…BAPTISM. Baptists are Christians who have come to Christ through professing their belief and personal faith in the Lord, Jesus Christ, and subsequently been baptized. In other words, individuals are not baptized during infancy before they know who Christ is. Baptists believe that each person must come to Christ and claim Him as their Savior on their own, to be baptized.
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be
baptized by John. 14 But John tried to deter him,
saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you
come to me?” 15 Jesus replied, “Let it be so now;
it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.”
Then John consented. 16 As soon as Jesus was
baptized, he went up out of the water. At that
moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit
of God descending like a dove and alighting on him.
17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son,
whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”
Most Baptist churches are under the umbrella of Protestantism. Protestants are members of the Western Christian churches that are separate from the Roman Catholic Church and follow the principles of the Reformation. However, that is an entirely other conversation! Click the links for more about the Reformation.
